If you are looking to opt out of social media, reduce your screentime, or just bring more art into your daily life, take a look at these artful apps we're downloading.
A note from GD founder Allie:
In these sometimes dark times, and the chill of winter, we have to intentionally seek out the light and love. I recently realized I needed more art back into my life to inspire me and help me through some personal challenges. So I went on a treasure hunt for beautiful, easy, and artful apps to download to my phone - I'm hoping to include more museums, galleries, and film in my days this year as well.
Meanwhile, the phone is with me all day, every day, so I'm starting there (and removing a few stress-inducing news and social apps for balance). I wanted to let you know about these picks in case you too could use some beauty, color, and light in your new habits for the new year. Let me know if you find this helpful! Be the light, or the mirror that reflects it. xo Allie
Go down the artful rabbit hole of Wiki Art

Pulling from the world's archives of public domain art images, the Wiki Art app features a beautiful tiled page of Featured art works - click on any individual image to learn more about the piece and the artist.
Your favorite museum probably has an app

Don't forget the art institutions - your favorite world-class museum has probably invested in its own app in recent years. It will probably include features like themed virtual exhibits, self-guided tours, and interactive elements, in addition to the need-to-know details for your next visit. Check the app store for your device!
Our top art history app: Daily Art

DailyArt is an award-winning app for a reason! We love the nice, big images, and thoughtful art history blurbs - best of all, you can set it up to send you a small notification each day, to create your own scheduled art break. The free version contains small ads (as you can see above), while paid tiers offer additional features.
Bonus: A mysterious, artsy game app

Song of Bloom was something we discovered as we were looking for a more straightforward art history app. It's a low-key, and frankly mysterious game that has you work through different types of puzzles and riddles, while each stage features a different style of illustration and even art history references (recognize the Joan Miro-inspired screen capture above?). Your progress is mapped out on a stylized floral image. No jump-scares, no flashing colors, just a nice slow-paced challenge - and it is challenging!
Are you an art buff? Do you have an art-related app to recommend?
